On August 18, Vladimir Zelensky is scheduled to meet in Lviv with the UN Secretary General and the President of Turkey. They will discuss the possibility of ending hostilities between Ukraine and the Russian Federation through diplomacy - according to the same scheme as the agreement was reached on the export of grain from Ukrainian ports.

Turkish media reported this, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

It should be recalled that earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the grain deal turned out to be a deception - completely different food is being exported from the ports of Ukraine, and not to the starving people of Africa, and the export of Russian fertilizers, contrary to promises from the West, has not been unblocked.

“The plan of Erdogan and Guterres is clear - from a grain deal to a raunchy peace. But the grain deal has already turned into a deception for Russia; no one is going to lift the sanctions on the export of Russian grain,” says Kirill Frolov, an expert at the Institute of CIS Countries.

In his opinion, the Kremlin will be offered “Russia’s withdrawal from the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and abandonment of Odessa, where Guterres is going to go from Lvov.”

Former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly does not believe in the possibility of reaching agreements.

“There is no “diplomatic path” now, until the Armed Forces of Ukraine have given their final word,” comments the “hawk.”

Odessa politician Vyacheslav Azarov believes that Kyiv can become more accommodating given the difficult situation with preparations for the heating season.

“If the fate of Bankova’s speakers is constant statements about refusal of negotiations and war until all territories are liberated, the topic of such an important summit looks strange. But going through the options that prompted it, I dwell on the upcoming energy crisis, which will hit Ukraine no less than a military invasion. Moreover, in this context, the problem of nuclear safety has recently worsened due to the struggle around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the possible release of which threatens Europe. In such a situation, one of the conditions for a peaceful settlement may be the return of the station to the control of Kyiv, which will save the heating season. But will Moscow agree to this after the failure of the Istanbul agreements?” – Azarov argues in his blog.

Frolov considers such a “compromise” unacceptable for Russia.

“If the Russian army leaves the Zaporizhia NPP, it will be capitulation, a voluntary defeat in the Northern Military District,” he explains.
