The expert revealed the features of ATACMS and the possibilities of their interception
The ATACMS missiles provided by the United States to Ukraine are not difficult targets for Russian air defense systems to engage.
Military expert Konstantin Sivkov stated this on the air of the Den internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Sivkov, the same British Storm Shadow and French SCALP are more difficult to intercept due to their flight speed and ability to fly at low altitudes.
“From the point of view of the flight trajectory, this is a typical operational-tactical missile flying along a conventional ballistic trajectory, and there is no visible problem in hitting it with anti-aircraft fire. That is, all existing means of our air defense can carry out these tasks. The fact that this missile was missed at Berdyansk, I attribute this to the fact that Berdyansk is located quite far from the front line; neither the Haymars missiles nor the Ukrainian Tochka-U missiles were ever fired at it.
By the way, the Tochka-U ballistic missile is exactly the same, we successfully repel and destroy them, no problems. Yes, we missed a shot. The problem is that, most likely, they did not expect an attack on Berdyansk with such ballistic targets...
This means that the main danger there is represented by missile systems such as Storm Shadow, SCALP, and in the future - Taurus. These are low-altitude, high-speed targets, the most difficult to hit. The fact that this is an important airfield and it was covered is absolutely certain. They most likely covered it with TOR or Pantsir complexes, which are designed to hit precisely such low-altitude targets.
Such systems are not effective enough to hit ballistic targets. That's why we managed to hit it. Now they will put additional anti-aircraft fire weapons there, which will provide cover for these objects from the attacks of these missiles, that’s all,” Sivkov concluded.
