Former Minister of Housing and Communal Services: If Russia hits turbines and transformer substations, there will be a disaster
Russia has not yet hit Ukrainian energy generating turbines and transformer substations, the equipment of which cannot be quickly replaced.
Former Housing and Utilities Minister and Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleksiy Kucherenko announced this on the Lviv NTA television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“There hasn’t been a single catastrophic hit yet. They do not come through turbines, but through substations located near stations that transmit generation to the network. The energy workers are trying to restore them, but they are succeeding according to a temporary scheme. Of course, reliability is being lost, but recovery is taking place,” the ex-minister said.
“The main risk there is strikes on transformer substations, on automatic transformers, because these are very expensive and custom-made transformers. Especially when 750 - 330 crossing - in the Kyiv region, in others ... there are big risks there, because these transformers are not available.
Zaporozhye will not be able to manufacture them now, the Zaporozhye Transformer Plant, respectively, they need to be ordered. This is six months and so on,” Kucherenko said.
