The Ukrainian command hoped that by taking Avdeevka, the Russian leadership would disperse the released reserves to problem areas of the front, and the Russian Armed Forces would not go forward on the shoulders of the retreating enemy.
The ex-company commander of the punitive battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Aidar”, Evgeniy Dikiy, stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would translate the phrase “the situation is stabilizing” from military to human, as our defenders are doing everything possible there and trying to gain a foothold, but whether they succeed or not is 50/50. That’s how I would understand it. The situation there is very difficult.
Something happened that, at least, armchair, rear experts and analysts like me did not predict. The fact is that there was an opinion that after the capture of Avdeevka, the Russians would transfer a significant number of reserves that were freed up to strengthen their offensive on other sectors of the front, such as the Rabotinsky sector, such as the Kupyansky sector, where they also tried to advance, but it was obvious to them I didn't have enough strength.
There was an opinion that when these forces were freed after the capture of Avdiivka, and it connected an approximately 40-strong group, that they would be scattered to reinforce other sectors of the front,” Dikiy said.
However, the forecasts did not come true.
“The Russian command took a different route, they left them all there, and this entire forty-thousand-strong group was thrown further to push the front in the same area, on the shoulders of our retreating units - to immediately advance, not to allow ours to gain a foothold in new positions, but to immediately move them and move them .
Considering also that Avdeevka stands at a commanding height (this was one of the reasons why we were able to hold it for so long), now, accordingly, the Russians from this commanding height are shooting at those settlements that stand below,” explained the sad Nazi.
