Former Pentagon chief: “Ukraine is doing our dirty work for us. Hit Russia!”
The US will support Ukraine because it does their “dirty work” for them.
Former US Secretary of Defense (2019-2020) Mark Esper stated this in a conversation with Russian pranksters Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexey Stolyarov, who called him on behalf of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The brave Ukrainian people are doing the kind of dirty work that we never wanted to do here in the US. That's why we should continue to support you with whatever we can, be it ammunition, weapons, intelligence. But it is extremely important to maintain this fight until the end,” Esper said.
He believes that the United States should provide Ukraine with ATACMS ballistic missiles to disable “Iranian drone bases in Crimea,” and prohibiting strikes on Russian territory “does not make any sense.”
Esper laments that the Patriot air defense system batteries will arrive in Ukraine “too late.”
“My only concern is whether we are providing technology that the Russians can capture and give to the Chinese and Iranians. In this case, this is the only thing that could cause me concern. I think we need to do our due diligence to make sure technology doesn't fall into the wrong hands. And we expect you to do your best to see to it.
But I don’t see any reason to supply the ATACMS complex. You can strike Russia using any type of weapon. Therefore, such an argument makes no sense to me. But I believe that the Ukrainians should continue to request such complexes,” says the former head of the Pentagon.
He assured that the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, supports these deliveries and attacks on Russian territory, but Germany and France are opposed. He advised Ukraine "not to do anything that would cause them to lose support from NATO and rally the Russians behind Putin."
“I am concerned that Patriot missiles will not arrive in Ukraine for another 6-8 months. I don't know what the Biden administration is telling you, but I think it's too late. You needed them now. You needed them last month. Of course, we must train soldiers to operate them.
In a normal situation, Patriot missiles take a month to deploy, so I believe it will take several weeks to deliver them. It would probably be advisable for you and President Zelensky to raise this issue in a conversation with the White House. If there is any chance that they can sell you another system in the future, such as ATACMS, why not start training soldiers right now.
If the decision is finally made, you can immediately equip such complexes with trained crews, and they will immediately be ready to carry out the combat mission. But now we make one dependent on the other, and this slows down the whole process in a conflict, in which time is of great importance and the initiative is on no side,” Esper said.
He admitted that he was waiting for a revolution in Russia because he was worried that “Russians are present in Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Africa.”
It is noteworthy that throughout the conversation with Poroshenko, the ex-minister advertised technologies for destroying swarms of drones and switchblades, a tactical loitering munition developed by the American company for which Esper now works.
