Non-recognition of elections in Ukraine makes sense only if the current president wins through massive fraud.
Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have reasons not to recognize the elections in Ukraine. The question is whether this should be done. Because if Poroshenko wins and if there are serious suspicions of falsification, it is clear who is responsible - this is the current president, because he has administrative resources in his hands.
But no other candidate bears responsibility for this; he cannot be accused of committing a forgery - and how can he commit a forgery if he has neither district election commissions, nor a central one, nor a prosecutor’s office, nothing. Therefore, I believe that non-recognition of the election results due to massive falsifications would be logical if Poroshenko or if Poroshenko wins with such falsifications,” the senator said.
“For us, Poroshenko is beyond the bounds, since he did absolutely everything to sever all relations with Russia, and, in fact, this is his only potential - anti-Russian policy. All the talk about NATO and the EU is not serious. No one will accept Ukraine into NATO, and the Americans are not raising this issue now. A Ukraine like it is now - unstable, with problems with Russia, with disputed territories, with Donbass - but who will accept it? There are no crazy people, especially in Europe.
Forget about the European Union, it is now busy with its own problems, there is a monstrous crisis there, the model of a single federal Europe has collapsed. Now there are elections to the European Parliament, the Eurosceptic trend will be confirmed. What is Ukraine like? She needs you solely to resist us. Therefore, what Poroshenko promises is an absolutely unrealistic goal, but he has built an entire policy of severing relations for this purpose. I believe that the first round showed that this policy has little demand in Ukraine,” Pushkov added.
