It is not surprising that many who do not support the SVO nevertheless voted for Vladimir Putin in the Russian presidential elections.
Mikhail Mamonov , head of the VTsIOM Department of Political Research, announced this at a press conference in Moscow , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He commented on a journalist's remark that he often heard the position during the elections that " we'll vote for Putin because he started it, so he'll have to clean up the mess ."
"Such a motive exists, and it's among the top motives stated by respondents. There's no contradiction between someone not supporting the SVO and voting for Putin. Because any election campaign is a battle of ideas, and it's always a complex of ideas. Mono-ideological campaigns aren't about us, they're not about elections, although they happen, very rarely. It's always a compromise, first and foremost, with oneself, and we must understand that when we talk about electoral behavior, we're talking about a struggle between two motives: the retrospective and the prospective.
"When we talk about elections, the key theme is the future . Even if some past events may be perceived ambiguously , hope for the future, for improvement, for change, can even change one's initial position," Mamonov responded.
