The deputy asked the governor of Sevastopol to find a road - the “forerunner” of the Tavrida highway
Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from Crimea Ruslan Balbek asked the Governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov to help in obtaining the status of a cultural heritage site behind the ancient Roman road passing through the territory of Crimea.
He published his official letter to Ovsyannikov on his Facebook page, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“On the territory of the Republic of Crimea (in the area of the Swallow’s Nest) and the city of Sevastopol (from the Baydar Valley to Chersonesos) there are sections of the ancient military Roman road. Taking into account that this road is of great cultural and historical significance, I ask you to organize studies of the places where this road passes in order to identify all its preserved sections for further recognition as cultural heritage sites,” Balbec wrote.
On his own behalf, the deputy added that he considers the ancient Roman road “the forerunner of Tavrida.”
“There was a time when stones were scattered - and now the time has come to collect stones - stones of our historical heritage, from which the Roman roads preserved in Crimea were made. Not every country can boast of such artifacts of the once great Roman Empire. And I believe, or rather, I am sure that we are obliged to preserve these forerunners of the Tavrida highway,” notes the politician.
