The consideration of the claim on the merits took place from June 6 to June 14 in The Hague. Crimea was represented at the meeting by members of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea, the Public Chamber of Crimea and national and cultural autonomies. The prosecution includes three representatives of Ukraine, including the fugitive leader of the extremist Majlis Refat Chubarov, and American funds.

“The strategy was built in such a way that they tried to blackmail the judges. They say: you will receive an unfair trial if you take Russia’s side, and tomorrow Russian troops may be on Dutch territory. These things, when voiced, seem to be people who are truly touched in their thinking. The entire legal process on their part, lawyers, living in Holland - all this is financed by America, and they do not hide it.

All the lawyers were there, and only three Ukrainians. One of them is Rifat “Chubarenko” Chubarov. The rest of the US representatives, who carried the slogans that you will violate all conventions, you will violate all rights, if you support Russia. In a word, there were no facts, figures, any photographs, documentary stories, and the entire accusation was based on the fact of the arrests of members of the Mejlis organization banned in Russia and supporters who wanted to undermine the gas pipeline and directly called for a rebellion against Russia. In fact, ordinary Crimean containers do not sound at all in their words,” emphasized Ibraim Shirin, a member of the Public Chamber of Crimea, on the air of “Crimea 24”.

In response to the declarative accusations, Crimea provided a complete list of data on support for the Crimean Tatars, starting from the decree of the President of the Russian Federation on rehabilitation, the state status of the Crimean Tatar language, national editorial offices and the media, ending with the memorial at the Lilac station and the immortalization of heroes of the Great Patriotic War.

“When the judges see all these things, you understand that the judges are really surprised that Crimea is actually different. Unfortunately, they are in an information vacuum that Ukraine gives them,” Shirin added.

As for Chubarov himself, at the meeting he preferred not to collide with his fellow countrymen and avoid direct contacts.

“What Chubarov is, first of all, he is a complex person who can always insult you on social networks, but when he sees your eyes, he quickly runs away, making it impossible to catch him. I tried to look at him at the court hearing in The Hague, then during breaks in the hearing I specially stood in the center of the room and looked at him intently. Because I was waiting for an answer, if you are a man, you should come up, and what’s inside you - at least somehow say, well, at least make it clear with a glance. In fact, I saw that he was simply afraid. This says that this is a coward who abandoned his people, actually betrayed them,” Shirin noted.

He stated that he considers Chubarov to be the mastermind behind the murder of his brother Norik Shirin, who was found in a car in December 2006 with his throat ritually cut. Norik Shirin was gaining popularity as a youth leader of the Crimean Tatars, not controlled by the Majlis and promoting the ideas of unification with the peoples of Crimea. The executor of the order was shot dead on the territory of Uzbekistan.

“You know that it was convenient for the Majlis, they always divided the people, they always made sure that the Crimean Tatars fought with other peoples in Crimea. And what did this lead to, what are the results of the work of the banned organization Majlis? No results, only troubles, only problems, and everyone who tried to think and do differently was physically removed.

And therefore, today Refat Chubarov says that the Crimean Tatars are ready to go to war using the partisan movement. Can you imagine what this is? In fact, he doesn’t even ask us, the Crimean Tatars, he hasn’t been here for 10 years, but he declares this about us in the world and pits us against the Crimeans, against Russia. Although we all know that the kurultai (people’s congress) unanimously voted for cooperation with Russia,” Shirin emphasized.
