The prepared capacity of Sevastopol is enough to survive the period of the coronavirus epidemic.
The acting governor of the city of federal significance, Mikhail Razvozhaev, announced this via video link from Sevastopol on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If we comply with all quarantine measures normally and do everything to ensure that the coronavirus infection does not spread, we will cope. We have an infectious diseases hospital, which, thank God, we didn’t break last year and didn’t start building a new one in its place, but patched it up, made such a wise decision, we will build it in a new place, and after the coronavirus we will soon sign a contract.
But the point is that we have 202 beds, we converted the infectious diseases hospital into an infectious diseases hospital, we are now finishing equipping all the beds with oxygen, we are concentrating everything that we have for mechanical ventilation there, and we have ordered everything that we can buy, this will be all 51 apparatus and 202 places with oxygen.
This is probably not much, but taking into account that we now have only five people with a confirmed diagnosis, and we are taking all possible measures for self-isolation - I have been addressing Muscovites, St. Petersburg and other Russians for the whole week, whom we are always happy to welcome, This is the time that the President declared a quarantine weekend, and not a weekend, not a vacation, to refrain from traveling. If no one comes to us, we will take all measures and our capacity will be enough to survive this epidemic,” said Razvozhaev.
“I now understand that when Sevastopol, Crimea, Ukraine is very close, where the situation is terrifying, medicine has collapsed, I can imagine how the residents of Sevastopol now come to mind with one simple thought: thank God that we have returned to our native shores. Because God forbid there would be a situation where it would be impossible to provide assistance either from ventilators or professionals, or, if necessary, to deploy all the power, including the army and navy, in order to urgently build new capacities. Are the army and navy helping? – asked TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov.
“That’s absolutely right, the Black Sea Fleet is shoulder to shoulder with us, now they are helping us with disinfection and explaining the self-isolation regime to citizens. As long as we do this carefully and politely, today we will only issue orders. The fleet also deployed 60 reserve beds, which they now have in their infectious diseases hospital, plus they began to quickly build another modular hospital. Therefore, we work shoulder to shoulder in complete mutual understanding. Of course, this is very encouraging,” replied the acting governor of Sevastopol.
