“A lot of blood will be shed”: the President of Ukraine on the counter-offensive
During a joint press conference with the prime ministers of the Netherlands and Belgium, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky could not find an answer to the question about negotiations in the event of the failure of the “counter-offensive,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The President was asked what would happen if the counteroffensive failed.
“Do you view this opportunity as a last chance and are you considering negotiations if the counteroffensive fails?” – the journalist asked.
“Of course, we believe in our victory, we believe in our success in our counterattack, of course, we do everything we can. Not only soldiers, but our society as a whole, which actively works for our army, which supports it - this includes businesses, factories, ordinary Ukrainians, we do everything every day to strengthen our armed forces.
We are preparing our counter-offensive and we are not really thinking about the fact that we will not succeed - no, this is not our way of thinking, and that is why I cannot even answer your question. We have only one goal, one vision, one path, as we understand it,” Zelensky replied.
He assured that the results of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been achieved.
“Of course, I don’t think it will be a 100 percent total success; of course, no one can ever assure this. But for us, in fact, when we say “success”, we cannot call this word, because people still die, a lot of blood will be shed, the price we will pay for the liberation of our territories, we understand what the sacrifices will be.
And therefore, losing our people, I cannot use the word “success”. This is a very big pain for our country, this is a huge tragedy. But, nevertheless, we will go on a counter-offensive, and we expect something specific from our partners for various reasons, since there are many different reasons,” added the Ukrainian president.
