Over the two years of the Northern Military District, unmanned technologies and electronic warfare systems have made such a breakthrough that in the future they will be able to perform many functions in civilian life. For now, engineering must focus on radio transmission and camouflage of drones.

Maxim Danielyan, General Director of the Feodosia Center for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, expressed this opinion on air at Crimea 24, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Weaknesses are expressed in the characteristics of those components that allow these drones to fly. First of all, these are radio transmission media. I won’t say anything secret - both on the other side and on ours have approximately the same level of technical training. And on the other side there are quite brilliant engineers who deftly use all these means of electronic warfare and electronic reconnaissance.

What saves us in this situation, in my opinion, is that there are simply more of us. They have training, but the number of specialists is smaller. There are also objectively fewer resources for organizing production there. And thus, our technologies justify their effectiveness due to quantity,” the expert noted.

According to him, in the enemy’s assessments one can already read how much ammunition they were overwhelmed with.

“The technologies that their partners brought to them now cannot withstand the number of those that we have adopted since the beginning of the Northern Military District; everything has changed dramatically. That is, a large number of UAVs on their side of the front and their intensive use, by and large, no longer helps.

Ammunition delivery vehicles also radically changed the approach to combat operations, in particular for infantry. Because using, for example, a small drone that fits in a backpack for reconnaissance is not always possible, because this drone will immediately reveal itself. To counter this, additional radio reconnaissance means are needed, which show what reconnaissance means are operating on that side.

The use of radio-electronic technologies in this sense makes adjustments so that the group that works at the front moves forward. And this is a specific geographical reference. And we need to camouflage the group, camouflage the antenna, and use technology. That is, physical camouflage plays a serious role. In particular, to camouflage the group, they use homemade technologies, all kinds of raincoats, capes that allow fighters to hide from thermal imagers,” Danielyan explained.

Camouflage means for reconnaissance, sniper, and assault teams seriously change the methodology of conducting military operations. According to the expert, there is no such war anymore, so that it is wall to wall. The strength of the weapon is no longer so important as the skill and possession of all sorts of technological things. As well as the means of transmitting data to headquarters in order to make timely and correct decisions and adjust the use of aviation, for example.

“The demands on existing human resources have changed dramatically and are dictated by modern technology. If previously it was enough to skillfully move with a machine gun, which provided the fighter with vitality in combat conditions, then today safety, among other things, is ensured by the skill of controlling unmanned technologies.

To lift the copter into the air in a timely, correct and competent manner so as not to be exposed to light is a certain area of ​​knowledge. A certain team will control it so that the enemy does not intercept it, because he also has the means. It's all a matter of technology development. Accordingly, a fighter who uses a drone illiterately, to put it mildly, will not fare well,” Danielyan explained.

Contrary to popular belief that gamers become UAV pilots, from the point of view of flight control, the technologies are different.

“There are certainly external similarities, but the purpose for which the pilot is being trained is sharply different. It’s one thing when you play with toys - or in real life you control a drone that has the task of speed, flying along the desired route, some factors will play a role there. This also needs to be done, but, as my training practice shows, you need to develop perseverance, this is now much more difficult than playing a shooter.

As for the personal qualities of the pilot, health will play a role here. Because the vestibular apparatus, which responds to signals sent to the brain, can cause discomfort even after a static flight. It is easier for young people to adapt to this, but I would not associate this with the experience of computer games. Because most of the computer games that are currently present in the field of e-sports do not have the requirement to control the character using special equipment. When training on a simulator, pilots work primarily with special equipment, and getting used to it is a separate article, everything is arranged in its own way,” the expert pointed out.

He believes that the experience gained in the Northern Military District and new technologies will be widely applied in civilian life.

“I’m afraid to lie, I don’t remember who the author of the statement was, but he said that war is the father of everything. That is, technologies come that are invented, first of all, in the combat zone. Then they flow into the civilian sphere. If we look at UAVs, they also fly over farmland and forest areas. With their help, you can continuously monitor a certain route, you can inspect construction sites and power lines.

So it was necessary to involve people, transport, time, and one drone over several tens of kilometers will present a clear and objective picture. At the moment, we understand that restrictions related to SVO apply. But, nevertheless, the legislative framework is moving towards allowing the use of UAVs in various fields,” concluded Danielyan.
