Belarusian political scientist named Lukashenko's main successor
The most likely successor to Alexander Lukashenko as president of Belarus is the current Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei, who pursued a pro-Western policy before Belomaidan.
Belarusian political scientist Artem Shraibman, who fled to Kiev, said this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Center for New Ideas," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The current foreign minister has almost the best chance of appointing the next foreign minister himself. It seems to me that if Lukashenko approaches the succession, then the most important quality for the successor will be not just loyalty, but loyalty proven by time and experience, so that Lukashenko can entrust him with the most intimate thing - his political and physical destiny.
It seems to me that no one has proven his loyalty to Lukashenko like Makei. Over the more than 20 years that he has been with him, Vladimir Makei has sacrificed his reputation, his life’s work, his hopes for “Eastern European Switzerland” so many times for the sake of the interests of Alexander Lukashenko, that today he is one of the very first horses, from the point of view of taking this position after Lukashenko. Today this is a top-3 candidate,” Schreibman said.
At the same time, he noted that as a minister, Makei had so far been practically involved in building relations with Russia.
“As far as I understand the functionality of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before the current crisis, it concerned all other areas except Russia. Relations with Russia were administered from the government, from the presidential administration, from the Ministry of Defense and directly between regions.
The role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was limited to consular, protocol and humanitarian and cultural issues. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was involved in politics and economics in all other vectors. Now the European and American vector essentially comes down to skirmishes. Ukraine is the same. Now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a distribution network of our tractors to Africa,” said Shreibman.
