“Bandera roots and the desire to kill Muscovites” - a military expert on recruiting generals of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Since 1991, the senior command staff of the Ukrainian army has been formed from natives of the western regions of the country with expressed ultra-right views, who were trained under “alternative” programs, and then retrained according to NATO standards in the UK and the USA.
Military expert Viktor Baranets spoke about this on the Zvezda program, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I had to talk face to face with a Ukrainian colonel in Crimea. I asked him: “How did you grow up so quickly? What school did you go to? What were the ratings? He said: “But I entered without exams. He came young, healthy - “from Volyn”. They looked at my personal file and the fact that my grandfather was a Banderaite immediately added points to me, I went without competition. The main thing they asked was: “Are you going to kill Muscovites?” “What about it!” – I said and was instantly enrolled. And there were many of them.” Even some honest Ukrainian social networks wrote about this, etc.,” the expert recalled.
Baranets noted that before the events of 2014, official Kiev actively introduced Western Ukrainian military personnel into the regional army circles of Crimea at various levels - from privates to officers.
“Personnel policy, when you look at the personal files of Ukrainian officers, you often see - 85 - 90% - that the focus was on Western Ukrainian natives. This policy was reflected in our Crimea, when the personnel of the command staff was pumped up mainly not only with officers, but with soldiers and sailors from Western Ukraine. There was such a Western ideological attitude.
I was also interested in where they studied, what combat guidelines they trained in, what combat regulations. I can say that few generals studied there together with Russian generals, because after 1991 they began to study according to their own systems.
But! Almost all senior officers and generals have undergone retraining to NATO standards in the USA or Great Britain. These are all graduates of American academies,” the analyst emphasized.
