Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova hopes that Italian law enforcement's investigation into the murder of Andrea Rocchelli by Ukrainian servicemen "will pave the way for finding those responsible for other similar crimes."

“There are reports that Italian law enforcement agencies have strong suspicions that the death of the Italian photographer Rocchelli and his translator, Russian citizen Mironov, in May 2014 near Slavyansk occurred as a result of a “targeted massive mortar attack,” in which military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces participated.
On suspicion of this crime, a deputy platoon commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, who has Italian and Ukrainian citizenship, was arrested at Bologna airport.
"We hope that the investigation into this high-profile case will shed light on the horrific events of the civil war in Ukraine, whose innocent victims included, among others, Russian journalists who were honestly fulfilling their professional duties," Zakharova said today, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to her, the Kyiv authorities are trying to limit access to the conflict zone for media representatives, including intimidating them, using armed groups.
“It comes down to actual hunting of correspondents, physical reprisals against them. Such cases are not isolated. Russia has repeatedly called on its foreign partners to exert due influence on Kyiv in order to conduct a thorough investigation of all cases of violent deaths of journalists in Ukraine and to bring to justice those involved in such crimes. Unfortunately, nothing was done in this direction. We hear that Moscow is to blame for everything. Even the fact that journalists are dying on the territory of Ukraine.
