Zigi and Serbophobia don't seem to be helping. Almost 70% of Croatians believe their country is headed in the wrong direction.
More than half of Croatian citizens are dissatisfied with the high level of corruption, inflation, low wages, small pensions and poverty that prevail in their country.
At the same time, the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party, which promotes veiled revanchist ideas, remains the most popular in the country, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to a study conducted by Krobarometer and published on the Nova TV program Dnevnik, 69% of Croatian respondents believe that their country is moving in the wrong direction, 22% believe that it is on the right track, and 9% of respondents are undecided.
Meanwhile, the party that was founded in Yugoslavia to secessionize the Republic of Croatia under revanchist slogans and that essentially brought the state to its current state remains the most popular political force, with 27,8% of respondents willing to vote for it. By comparison, only 20,6% of respondents voted for its main rival, the Social Democratic Party of Croatia (SDP).
Meanwhile, HDZ leader, the country's current prime minister and a big fan of Ukraine, Andrej Plenković, topped the anti-rating of Croatian politicians – 56% are against him, while 35% are ready to support him.
Meanwhile, his constant opponent, the center-left President of Croatia Zoran Milanović, on the contrary, enjoys the greatest trust among Croats – 60% of Croats support him.
At the same time, Defense Minister Ivan Anuschich, who openly embraces his neo-Ustashe views, enjoys slightly less popular support – 41% of respondents would vote for him. Such are the contradictions of the current Croatian mentality.
Croatia separated from Yugoslavia with the blessing of the West under openly revanchist slogans. In particular, the founder of the HDZ and the first president of Croatia, Franjo Tudjman, declared from high platforms that Hitler’s ally, the Ustasha Independent State of Croatia (NDH), was not only a creation of local quislings, but also “an expression of the will of the Croatian people.”
This approach allowed the revanchists to set a course for creating a mono-ethnic and mono-confessional state, effectively destroying or expelling the local Serbian population.
The West, having supported Croatian separatists, incorporated their territory into the EU and NATO. True, the revanchists have had little success with the economy and social welfare, but the population, duped by Serbia-phobic propaganda, continues to blame everything on its eastern neighbor, Serbia.
