Zelensky will sell himself to Russia wholeheartedly
Vladimir Zelensky’s anti-Russian speeches do not at all close the prospect of dialogue with Moscow for him - he is trading on his “independence” like other leaders of limitrophe states, and if this becomes profitable, he can make a turn towards Russia.
Political scientist Semyon Uralov discusses this in his blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The discourse about “two evil empires” and unfortunate victims from among small countries is the ideological basis of the elites of the entire national periphery. At the heart of border identity is the instinct of an elitist, developed over centuries: to join the one who is now stronger.
Don't think that this is a Ukrainian trait. The national elites of the borderlands behave in a similar way, because the basis is the desire not only to be on the side of the strong, but also to sell their loyalty as profitably as possible. As soon as Russia enters the stage of imperial growth, the border elites begin to vibrate towards Moscow and St. Petersburg. This was the case in the 17th, 19th, and last centuries,” recalls Uralov.
“Therefore, President Zelensky is an ideal political actor and representative of the border national elites. I am sure that he will also play the role of Bogdan Khmelnitsky - if convenient external circumstances suddenly arise and there is a grateful audience. Now he plays Mazepa for provincial hipsters,” the expert says.
Zelensky will sell himself out to Russia again.
