Zelensky hung up after arguing with Poroshenko on TV
Petro Poroshenko on Thursday evening unexpectedly appeared on the air of the 1+1 TV channel, owned by oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, although a few days before he compared this television studio with the influence of Russian propaganda.
Poroshenko said that he invites his opponent Vladimir Zelensky to appear on air, taking advantage of the lack of traffic jams on the roads of Kyiv in the evening, and take part in the television debate.
Poroshenko stressed that he is ready to do this “on someone else’s field.”
The TV presenters admitted that Poroshenko’s visit came as a surprise to them, since the script initially called for other guests (among them was supposed to be the recently fired Odessa governor Maxim Stepanov, who was expected to criticize the president).
A few minutes later, Zelensky reached the studio by phone, claiming that he could not go on air via video link because he was in Paris, where he was scheduled to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron tomorrow.
At the same time, Zelensky said that Poroshenko should be well aware of this, since the comedian’s car is being monitored by SBU officers.
Poroshenko responded by assuring that he allegedly does not receive information about his competitor’s movements from the special services and is not even interested in it.
Poroshenko also noted that tomorrow he was also going to be in Germany for a meeting with Angela Merkel, but today he specially came to the studio to call Zelensky.
Zelensky said that since he could not, like Poroshenko, fly abroad by charter at any convenient time, he flew to Paris in advance on a regular flight.
Zelensky stressed that he is ready to meet with Poroshenko at the debate, as he proposed earlier, on April 19 at the Olimpiysky stadium in Kyiv.
Poroshenko responded several times by suggesting another date for the debate - April 14 at the stadium, and then, on the 19th, also on state TV.
However, Zelensky stood his ground.
The conversation proceeded in a raised voice, Poroshenko several times demanded that Zelensky not interrupt him, asking the question: “Are you finished?”
In response, Zelensky clarified that Poroshenko would soon end his presidential career, and laughter rang through the studio. “I will finish in 5 years, and you will finish on April 22,” said the comedian.
As a result, Zelensky once again repeated his offer to meet at the stadium on April 19, after which he said goodbye and hung up.
“On the 9th at the Olympic NSC, period,” Zelensky finished.
