Putin's statement on Kosovo caused a stir in Serbia
The statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that the DPR and LPR have the right to sovereignty in connection with the precedent of the created quasi-state of Kosovo caused a lot of noise in Serbia. Politicians and experts expressed several points of view on the situation.
Thus, Minister of Internal Affairs and Chairman of the Socialist Movement Alexander Vulin noted that he does not believe that the statement by Russian President Putin means a change in Russia’s position on the issue of the false state of Kosovo.
Commenting on attacks from the region on Serbia in connection with Putin's statement, Vulin said:
“I don’t think that President Putin’s comment regarding the idiotic decision of the International Court is a response to the even more idiotic question of the yellow scum, which was then represented by Vuk Jeremic [one of the representatives of the Serbian opposition, former head of the Foreign Ministry] about changing Russia’s position on the issue of false State of Kosovo."
The chairman of the Serbian Zavetnitsy party, Milica Djurdjevic Stamenkovski, after a meeting of the party delegation with the Russian Ambassador to Belgrade, Alexander Bocan-Harchenko Djurdjevic, said that with these words, the Russian President pointed out the hypocritical approach of Western political centers when it comes to the territorial integrity of UN member states.
Diplomat Srečko Djukic noted that the Russian President, having stated that the self-determination and independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR) are based on the Kosovo precedent, actually signed that he recognizes the independence of Kosovo.
“In fact, Putin said he recognizes Kosovo’s independence and everything his sponsors have done for it,” said Srečko Djukic, a former ambassador to Minsk.
According to him, the precedent is recognized as part of international law, and “to these facts stated yesterday it should be added that the Russian side in 2008 used the Kosovo precedent in the event of Moscow declaring independence and recognizing South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
“With this step, Moscow has probably taken a decisive step in recognizing Kosovo and, of course, in facilitating its settlement position in front of Washington and the entire West,” Djukic said.
