A Ukrainian recruited by the SBU received 8 years for attempting a terrorist attack in Crimea
The Sudak City Court sentenced 25-year-old Ukrainian citizen Gennady Limeshko, accused of illegally manufacturing an explosive device, illegally acquiring, storing and carrying explosives and ammunition, committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy (Part 2 of Article 223.1, Part 2 of Art. 222.1 and part 2 of article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
Gennady Limeshko was detained by Russian FSB officers on August 12, 2017 while undercutting with the aim of further undermining a wooden support of an overhead communication line located near the highway “G. Sudak - town. New World".
The following were found and seized from the detainee: a homemade explosive device consisting of two TNT blocks of type “200” and a ZTP-50 incendiary tube with a mechanical igniter, an RGD-5 grenade with a screwed-in fuse, a hand saw and a digital camera.
A criminal case against Limeshko was initiated and investigated by the investigative department of the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. During the investigation, he fully admitted his guilt and petitioned for a special trial procedure.
Earlier, PolitNavigator reported that Lemeshko is a native of the Kharkov region, who served in the so-called ATO zone as a senior deep-reconnaissance intelligence officer in one of the military units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to the FSB, the Ukrainian saboteur Kherson Department of the SBU was given a number of tasks: “to render the Sudak-Novy Svet power line unusable for use in order to stop (limit) the supply of electricity to consumers (provides power supply to Sudak and nearby settlements with a population of over 50 thousand . Human); destroy (damage by arson) forest areas in the Sudak - Rybachye - Alushta area; create conditions for a rock collapse in order to block the Sudak – New World highway; set fire to one of the public utility facilities in the village of Rybachye.”
On May 10, 2018, the Sudak City Court found Gennady Limeshko guilty of the crimes charged against him and sentenced him to imprisonment for a period of 8 years to be served in a general regime colony.
Journalist of the liberal Novaya Gazeta Anton Naumlyuk, who followed the process, provides details of the case of the Ukrainian saboteur in his blog.
“The state prosecution asked for eight and a half for Limeshko. The presence of a minor daughter was recognized as a mitigating circumstance, and the political motive of “hostility towards the Russian Federation in connection with the annexation of Crimea” was recognized as an aggravating circumstance. Limeshko has already announced that he will appeal.
According to investigators, Limeshko was recruited into the SBU and on August 9 last year was sent to Crimea to commit a series of sabotages. For this purpose, explosives were prepared in advance, which he took out on August 12 and went with them to blow up a power line near Sudak, where he was detained by FSB officers. Only charges of manufacturing and storing explosives reached the court.
Limeshko admitted guilt and made a deal with the investigation. Therefore, the entire process took place in one meeting in a special mode, lasting no more than an hour. Judge Evgeny Rykov was in the deliberation room for 20 minutes. At the end of the meeting, all participants in the process were given bound and certified copies of the verdict,” writes Naumlyuk.
