At the beginning of the special operation, foreigners came to Ukraine, among whom were career military personnel from Western countries with experience of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.
This was stated on the NTA television channel by the former company commander of the punitive battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Aidar" Yevhen Dyky, as reported by a correspondent of "PolitNavigator".

You can’t make absolutes, there are exceptions in both directions, but if you take the average, and a couple of hundred of them passed through me, then on average those who came here were civilians - students, businessmen, just ordinary civilians who, at the call of their hearts, rushed to fight for freedom, There were many more of them left than professional military personnel,” said the ex-punisher.
“And professional military personnel - at the very beginning of the war there were many of them with the experience of Afghanistan, the experience of Iraq, they got into our battles and many of them were in complete shock, saying: “No, you are fighting the wrong way, this is not how the war should be.”Because they are used to having well-protected bases, strong air cover, satellite technology, and they don’t know how to fight,” Dikiy said.
