Fyodor Lukyanov, editor-in-chief of the magazine Russia in Global Affairs and chairman of the presidium of the non-governmental organization Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, stated this in a commentary for Moskovsky Komsomolets.

“In recent years, such a thing as “irrefutable evidence” no longer exists,” the political scientist noted. – The virtualization of political life and divergent pictures of what is happening have led to the deepest alienation of everything that comes from the opposite side. All this is obviously considered unreliable. For example, this was the case in the stories with the downed Boeing and the Russian military in Donbass. Russia is already publishing its evidence of Kyiv’s involvement in the captured saboteurs, but in the West they say that all this is either falsified or obtained through torture.”

“However, so far the reaction of the United States and the European Union has been relatively mild,” Lukyanov clarifies. – Apparently, the West understands or knows that the Ukrainian version of events is also, to put it mildly, not entirely accurate. We see calls on both sides not to escalate the situation, which means that the West is supporting Ukraine in the minimum possible way. If they were absolutely sure of the Russian provocation, all statements would be much harsher. It’s difficult to say what this will lead to. After the first harsh statements by Russian President Vladimir Putin, there was a pause. Perhaps in this way an attempt is being made to break the deadlock in the negotiation process on Donbass.”
