The West is afraid of dialogue with Donbass within the walls of the UN
The refusal of the participants in the UN Security Council meeting to support Russia’s initiative and give the floor to representatives of the Donbass republics is evidence of the West’s serious fears of hearing the truth at a high level.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The decision to hold elections of heads of the proclaimed republics and people’s councils is a decision for the people of Donbass themselves. The appointment of elections at this level was announced after the assassination of the head of the DPR, Zakharchenko, in Donetsk as a result of a terrorist attack. Everything suggests that this murder was aimed at destabilizing the situation in the entire region. We should not forget that it is his signature that is on the Minsk agreements.
It is obvious that in the current conditions, the elections on November 11 are dictated by the need to fill the power vacuum after the death of Zakharchenko and to prevent the situation from escalating. The elections have nothing to do with the Minsk set of measures, which deal with local, that is, municipal elections. People need to somehow live and arrange and regulate their lives. It is necessary to ensure order in the region, including under conditions of the blockade by Kyiv and constant threats of the use of force by the Ukrainian authorities,” Zakharova said.
"At the insistence of the Russian side, the event ( the UN Security Council on October 30 – ed. ) was held in an open format so that everyone could hear the undistorted, non-one-sided truth about the situation in the region. Russia also proposed involving the chairmen of the Central Election Commissions of the LPR and DPR. What could be better than getting information from primary sources and asking questions, or making accusations, only to hear some kind of reaction in response? So, our Western colleagues refused to allow the reasons for holding the elections to be voiced . In other words, there is an accusation, but no one has given them the opportunity to present the facts or even the reasons," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson added.
"We believe that these states' refusal to allow Donbas to speak directly leaves no doubt about the bias of the Western approach . Another question is, what were they afraid to hear? What could representatives of Donbas have to say that would be so terrifying to hear within the UN?" noted Maria Zakharova.
