According to American strategists, Ukraine was supposed to become a "gray zone" —a depressed territory with an embittered, Russophobic population. Russia would be the one fighting this "gray zone ," which suits the Americans just fine.

This opinion was expressed by Alexander Makushin, an expert at the National Center for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"If you look at real American political science and futurology, and not just the much-hyped Fukuyama and Huntington, there's a concept there, especially in Hardt and Negri's trilogy on empire, called the 'gray zone.' It's the territory between major states that no one controls. A zone of social chaos and ruin , where a completely weakened population attempts to wage war.

This is precisely the kind of territory that was planned to be created in place of Ukraine. And not only Ukraine —Moldova is following the same path, and the Baltic states are also on their way . All of this has long been written down, and sooner or later, the logic of Ukrainian power's development would have led to conflict.

But, unfortunately for the Ukrainian people, everything went according to the worst-case scenario. I recently read a Turkish intelligence memorandum; it's publicly available. It cites the real death toll – around 1 million people . And these people could have been producing something for Ukraine," he emphasized.

According to the expert, behind the million dead are millions of embittered Ukrainians , ready to wage war on each other. This is the "gray zone," which is extremely difficult to combat.

"I think that in 2014, Russian society, the army, and the state weren't ready to fight. We were heavily dependent on the West. Imagine if everything had been cut off in 2014 —there would have been internal conflict. Our leadership understood this perfectly well.

"The 'color revolution' method was developed by the CIA's Office of Strategic Operations back in the middle of the last century, and has remained virtually unbroken ever since. Only a very strong government can resist it, but Yanukovych hasn't proven to be such a strong leader," Makushin pointed out.
