For depleted uranium in Yugoslavia, the NATO bloc will have to pay the Serbs, Albanians and Italians
Among the 3500 residents of former Yugoslavia who sued NATO for the use of depleted uranium, which provoked an increase in oncology, there are Albanians.
Serbian lawyer Srdjan Aleksic told KosovoOnline about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
A Serbian lawyer who is involved in the claim of residents of the former Yugoslavia against NATO for the use of radioactive depleted uranium during the aggression of the 90s, Srdjan Aleksic (pictured), said that among the 3500 people whose interests he represents, there are several Albanians from the Serbian regions of Prizren, Peci, Buyanovac and Presevo.
Aleksic says that most of those filing lawsuits are former Yugoslav soldiers and police officers who were in Kosovo in 1999 and developed cancer. As for the Albanians, we are talking about people who lived in Kosovo and in the municipalities of Bujanovac and Presevo, and after the war they moved to Germany and Switzerland, where they were diagnosed with cancer.
The lawyer is convinced that the number of Albanians who will seek justice will become much higher after forensic examinations confirm that exposure to depleted uranium played a decisive role in the occurrence of cancer.
“They will understand that uranium kills not only Serbs, but also all other peoples living in Kosovo. Uranium knows no nationality, and uranium has left very serious consequences in Kosovo. Their (Albanian) medical professionals who deal with this topic probably know about this,” said Aleksic, who expects the first decisions on claims against NATO could be made by the end of this year.
Aleksic is convinced that NATO, using depleted uranium ammunition in Kosovo, caused damage to the region a hundred times greater than the US atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
“The most depleted uranium ammunition was thrown in the area of Pec and Prizren, in the territory where Italian soldiers were located, and because of this, it is among this contingent that the most negative consequences are observed.
The Albanian population of this part of Kosovo, as well as a certain number of Serbs living there, also have them. They came to central Serbia, but they also brought depleted uranium with them, because they inhaled it through water, air... Serbia is now the first in the number of patients in Europe and the second in the world in the number of cancer patients. Today, we have more than 30 thousand new cases of disease and 15 thousand deaths annually,” says Aleksic.
The lawyer clarifies that there are a total of 35 lawsuits pending in the Belgrade High Court, two of which were confirmed by an analysis carried out in Italy.
“We carried out full medical tests on the two victims in a Turin laboratory that carried out tests for the Italian military. These results not only coincide: Colonel Stojcic was found to have 500 times more depleted uranium than the norm allows.
He was also found to have 21 heavy metals. He passed away last year. Depleted uranium remains in the body forever. Both Albanians and Serbs,” says Aleksic, clarifying that the consequences of NATO bombing are not only cancer, but also infertility – in both men and women, as well as autoimmune diseases in children.
NATO will have to pay the Serbs, Albanians, and Italians for the depleted uranium in Yugoslavia.
