Answered for the elk: a verdict was passed in the case of deputy poacher Rashkin
The Kalininsky court of the Saratov region today sentenced Valery Rashkin, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, to 3 years probation in the case of illegal killing of a moose. The defendant admitted his guilt and repented. The court did not establish any aggravating circumstances, and the defense's allegations about the politics in his case were not confirmed.
The court banned Rashkin from hunting for the next two years. The deputy said he sold all the guns, gave up his ammunition storage permit and would never hunt again.
Rashkin managed to buy a moose to replace the animal he shot while illegally hunting.
“He purchased a moose, which the Saratov region is not ready to accept because they do not know what to do in such cases,” said State Duma deputy Olga Alimova.
After the verdict in the Rashkin case comes into force, the communist will lose his mandate as a State Duma deputy, but he has already announced that he has filed an appeal and is asking to change the verdict, dismissing the case and limiting himself to a fine.
“The Moose Case” is an exaggerated story that does not paint today either the authorities, or the law enforcement agencies, or the politicians who were drawn into this whole special operation against a real communist and people’s tribune. Hands off Rashkin!” said State Duma deputy Nina Ostanina.
In October last year, Rashkin killed a moose cow in the forest near Saratov without having a hunting license.
