Two hundred thousand Ukrainians received Russian passports in a year
In 2019, almost two hundred thousand Ukrainians received Russian passports, about a third of them were residents of territories controlled by Kyiv.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko stated this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today I want to give you some statistics. In 2019, more than 196 thousand Ukrainians renounced Ukrainian citizenship and received Russian passports. Moreover, if you think that these are only citizens of the LPR and DPR, then you are deeply mistaken. A third (about 60 thousand people) of those who decided to become Russian subjects are residents of territories controlled by Kyiv,” Zhuravko wrote.
In his opinion, the reason for the mass escape of Ukrainians from the Square is poverty, unemployment and the lack of any prospects that have reigned in the country as a result of the so-called “revolution of dignity”.
“It’s sad to say, but more and more Ukrainians do not see prospects for themselves within their native country. The lack of jobs, decent wages, a stable future and an adequate level of security - this is not a complete list of reasons forcing Ukrainian citizens to seek a better fate for themselves and their families, including in Russia.
But these are only statistics for the Russian Federation. It will be very interesting to read the same statistics for many EU countries, the USA and Canada, where my fellow citizens began to leave so actively after the bloody coup in 2014,” the ex-deputy concluded.
