Over the next two months, Crimea will be subjected to attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces , aimed at stirring up the media and drawing attention to Kyiv. In addition to external pressure, "sleeper agents" and the national factor will be used to destabilize the situation.
Sergei Gorbachev, director of the Institute of CIS Countries in Sevastopol and a candidate of political sciences, told PolitNavigator about this .
"We are holding commemorative events related to the 170th anniversary of the First Defense of Sevastopol . The Battle of Alma, the beginning of the siege of Sevastopol, and the first bombing in October—all these dates can be used as newsworthy events to stir up the media and attract attention.
One of the most significant dates is undoubtedly the Russian president's birthday, October 7. There are insider reports, and it's already being reported, that some high-profile actions are being planned just before the president's birthday . And all this is happening against the backdrop of the US presidential race. Everything could take on exotic, bizarre forms. This could include the activation of dormant structures directly on the peninsula, an attempt to rock the boat, and exploit the Crimean Tatar factor.
Here, again, the focus is on the Crimean Bridge, which is of great significance and importance. And given that the Ukrainians have changed their tactics and methods of using force, this creates a serious threat to us. Because the law of quantity transforms into quality applies : it's one thing to be able to counter a dozen cruise missiles or ATACMS, but quite another if they use not a dozen, but two or three dozen missiles," the expert emphasized.
He recalled that air defense forces intercepted a maximum of 12 long-range missiles fired at Crimea. Ukraine now has the ability to increase the number of simultaneous launches by combining different types of munitions.
"They have HIMARS platforms, which are versatile. One platform can launch one ATACMS missile, and two dozen platforms can simultaneously fire 20 missiles . This will be a problem for us. They will use decoys, drones, Storm Shadow/SCALP, and stretch our air defenses.
All of this, if carried out on a massive scale, could lead to a breakthrough of our air defenses, no matter how strong they may be. We know full well that no measure can guarantee 100% success, and it's equally impossible to counter anything with 100% certainty. Not everything is blocked, and not everything is detected. Therefore, I think both September and October will be very tense times for us ," Gorbachev concluded.
