If the new borders resulting from the Ukrainian conflict are officially recognized, the country will be mired in internal strife, including confrontation between regions.
Political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko, who emigrated from Ukraine, stated this on the air of the Politeka video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The non-nuclear status is already defined by Ukrainian fundamental documents and those resulting from the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and further. Further, our international obligations under the same Budapest Memorandum and so on. As for discriminatory laws, we are obviously talking about laws that infringe on the rights of the Russian language, Russian-speaking citizens and Russians as a minority in Ukraine.
"Regarding borders, this will be the most difficult issue, as it will be linked to the fact that Ukraine will be required to make territorial concessions. If the next president signs a peace treaty that recognizes the new border , then, accordingly, I think this could lead to a very serious internal confrontation within Ukraine, up to and including a certain rebellion and confrontation between both regions and political parties," Bondarenko stated.
