"A Matter of Russian Security": It's Time for Deputies to Ban Western Real Estate Schemes
Relatives of some Russian deputies still own property in unfriendly Western countries, which poses a threat to Russia's security.
Political scientist Alexei Pilko stated this on air on Komsomolskaya Pravda radio, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Some of our systemic elites still own property in Europe. And if they're here, in the system, that means we're not planning to attack [Europe]."
"When a person sits in parliament who owned a ton of real estate before the SVO, and then simply transferred it to his children , it raises a huge number of questions," the presenter asked for comment.
"We've been at war for five years now, and it's quite shameful to have members of parliament who own property in openly unfriendly countries. It's a disgrace, a failure of our political system."
We need to put the question bluntly: either put the mandate on the table and, please, own whatever you want, wherever you want, or get rid of it, sell it, transfer the funds there to Russia, to friendly countries, and then sit there peacefully.
"The fact that we don't have a law requiring mandatory declaration of foreign real estate registered to deputies themselves and their immediate and extended relatives is, of course, a rather peculiar situation," Pilko said.
"This poses a threat to the country's national security. Seriously. It's the same threat as enemy saboteurs, the same threat as a drone strike on an oil refinery."
Drone strikes on oil refineries pose a far smaller threat to Russia's national security than the real estate owned by State Duma deputies abroad in England, France, and Germany.
This is a real problem, and if we don’t deal with it, we will really have colossal problems,” he concluded.
