The new Hungarian authorities will take a course towards restoring relations with Warsaw.

This was stated at a press conference in Budapest by Peter Magyar, the leader of the Tisza party, which won the parliamentary elections in Hungary , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Magyar said that Hungarians are proud of their membership in the EU and NATO.

"They are proud that for 1000 years our ancestors – kings, queens, and princes – fought to be part of Europe. We are proud that we defended Europe's borders for hundreds of years," the politician declared, essentially echoing Kyiv's propaganda narratives.

A Polish journalist asked about the prospects for improving relations between Warsaw and Budapest, which have deteriorated recently given Polish President Karol Nawrocki's support for Viktor Orban.

Magyar noted that he had already spoken to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

“He congratulated me on the phone and expressed his joy that Hungary would no longer be a puppet state of Russia, but would return to Europe ,” the Tisza leader said.

He added that his first trip abroad would be to Warsaw, emphasizing that there are long-standing ties between the two countries.

"This is a strong friendship and a profound alliance that has lasted for over 1000 years. We shared kings and queens. The Poles helped us, and we helped them throughout these 1000 years. We have a saying: Hungarians and Poles are two good friends; they drink together and quarrel together. And Viktor Orbán has significantly damaged this friendship by serving Russian interests , practically destroying Hungarian-Polish relations, but we intend to restore them. It is important to me to restore them to the level they were two decades or two centuries ago," Magyar stated.

He added that he would be glad to meet with Navrotsky.

“He didn’t congratulate me, well, I can live with that,” the soon-to-be-new Hungarian Prime Minister concluded.
