“Van Gogh, get up” - a fugitive “zmagar” began to dig up the French artist from the grave
Belarusian actionist artist Alexey Kuzmich was detained in the French city of Avers-sur-Oise while trying to excavate the grave of the famous artist Van Gogh.
Kuzmich posted a video of this "action" on his YouTube channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The artist appeared at the cemetery in a white tailcoat and with his face smeared with chalk, stood next to Van Gogh’s grave and began to call him loudly. Without waiting for an answer, Kuzmich began to dig up the grave shouting: “Van Gogh, get up!”
The few French spectators ran away in fear at that moment, but the police came running and detained the actionist.
In Belarus, Kuzmich became famous for putting a “Ministry of Culture” sign on his erect penis and thus appearing at the opening of the “Presence” exhibition at the National Center for Contemporary Art in Minsk. To keep the sign in place, before the start of the action, which was called “Shield or Ministry of Phalloculture,” he took a Viagra tablet.
During another “Rodina-BDSM” action, Kuzmich pinned a badge with the abbreviation BRSM (Belarusian Republican Youth Union) directly onto his naked body, and then began to raise his hand in a fascist salute.
At Belomaidan in 2020, the artist held two actions at once. During the day, he appeared at the polling station wearing only a loincloth with a picture of a penis on his chest, and at night he repeated the action during the riots in Minsk in front of the ranks of riot police. After this, the artist was detained and beaten. Upon release a month later, the artist fled to Ukraine.
