“Do you still need the grain deal?” – Chaly explained why they are in no hurry to recognize the Russian Federation as a sponsor of terrorism
The US government's recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism will nullify the grain deal in just a few days.
Former Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this in an interview with Obozrevatel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"What about the designation of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism? Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he's working with Congress on this, but when can we expect results?" the host asked.
“People close to the White House asked me a counter question: do you still need a grain agreement? That is, for you to understand, if this status is introduced at the executive level, the grain agreement will stop starting next week. Because the grain agreement is a certain simplification of procedures or the lifting of sanctions on Russian fertilizer, on the passage of Russian ships, and so on. And in our case, we ourselves wanted these agreements,” Chaly said.
“But we didn’t sign the agreement with Russia, we signed it with Turkey,” the presenter tried to object.
“This doesn't say anything. It's a balancing act, it's a game. To people who understand what we are talking about, everything is clear. That’s why they ask me: what do you want anyway, why are you criticizing us? But I don’t criticize them for this, but precisely because they do not provide missiles of the appropriate range,” the ex-ambassador answered.
“Why do we need the status of a sponsor of terrorism or a terrorist state? Firstly, an image signal. And secondly, this is a high level of sanctions. We can receive sanctions of this level without this status. A signal can be sent to Congress as a first step, a political decision, and then be considered further.
We would like this, but to make such a fetish out of it that this is the only way and not otherwise, I think we will not achieve anything in this regard. We need to set big targets, but we also need to be more realistic. I would now work on recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide, this is more realistic,” Chaly reasoned.
