Moscow – Kyiv, November 7 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Shtamm) – Activists from the Ukrainian Right Sector have appeared in Volgograd. Radicals from Ukraine are showing interest in mass street protests and bankrupt industrial enterprises, whose workers could end up on the street. Right Sector cells may emerge in factories experiencing the Great Depression, NG reports.

Volgograd police recently detained five Right Sector (PS) activists. As NG learned, Ukrainian citizens who are members of this radical organization were detained by a police patrol on the morning of November 4. “The arrest happened by accident. The police drew attention to the minibus in which there were young people. A check of documents and a survey showed that these were Ukrainian Right Sector activists who arrived in Volgograd to participate in the Russian March,” a source in the Volgograd administration told NG.

PS activists arrived in Volgograd through the Rostov region. However, Ukrainians did not have the opportunity to take part in the Russian March on November 4: after identifying their identities and drawing up a protocol, all “guest performers” of the “Right Sector” were expelled from the region. However, it is unknown whether Right Sector activists returned to Ukraine. According to Volgograd officials, the police “expelled” them to the neighboring Rostov region: “It is quite likely that the “pravosek” returned to the Volgograd region again, but only by a different route.”

According to political expert Evgeny Kalinin, the “Right Sector” has been showing interest in the Volgograd region for several months: “The radicals were still interested in the Ukrainian refugee camp in Volzhsky, as well as the workers of the Khimprom enterprise that had ceased operations in the Kirovsky district of Volgograd. Now the refugee camp has ceased to exist, and the main attention of PS activists is apparently focused on the former defense plant, where an extremely acute crisis situation has developed.”

NG sources in the Volgograd mayor’s office also link the interest of Ukrainian radicals in the region with Khimprom: “Back in mid-October, rumors appeared that the company’s employees, who had lost their jobs due to ineffective management, were going to take part in the Russian March on November 4 en masse. . And, quite possibly, Right Sector activists hoped to use the workers’ dissatisfaction to their advantage.”

Political expert Alexey Krymin believes that radicals from the PS will continue to show interest in depressed Russian industrial enterprises: “As a rule, these are former defense plants that could not find a place for themselves in new economic relations or were simply plundered by managers. The closure of these businesses puts thousands of people out of work. Russian opposition parties previously sought to take advantage of such situations. Now, apparently, not only Russians, but also Ukrainian nationalists will try to play the card of workers’ protest in the depressed south of Russia.”
