Ariel Cohen, a non-resident senior fellow at the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center, expressed this opinion in an article published by the Atlantic Council.
According to him, Washington faces a number of problems in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“Firstly, developing an adequate US policy towards Russia is impossible in the absence of reliable intelligence and quality analysis,” the author admits. – Reliable intelligence has not been received for a long time: both the invasion of Georgia in 2008 and the occupation of Crimea and the war in Donbass in 2014, unfortunately, came as a complete surprise to the United States. Without reliable sources of information, it is impossible to predict the actions of unpredictable leaders who completely control all policy instruments in their countries.”
In addition, it is said that Europeans and Americans clearly do not want to fight for Ukraine.
“The sad truth is that political elites in the EU and US mistakenly believe that there is not much at stake for them in the Ukrainian conflict. They would prefer to trade with Russia. And no Western country - perhaps with the exception of Poland - is ready to enter into a full-scale war with Russia armed with nuclear missiles for the sake of Ukraine,” Cohen concludes.
