Policemen from the patrol service were delayed on the way; their bus broke down near Simferopol. While passing the time, the townspeople held a meeting at which they read out the decisions of the deputy congress in Kharkov and approved them. Then some of them went to the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet and handed over a petition with a request to set up checkpoints at the entrance to the city with a thousand signatures collected.

Finally, the police arrived. The commanders were unable to line up their personnel because relatives and strangers rushed to hug them. “Thank you for coming back. We won’t let you go there again,” the women said. The crowd chanted "Thank you!"

The enthusiasm of the townspeople reached its peak when the Berkut unit arrived. The crowd did not allow the fighters to move away from the buses; they were given flowers and sweets, chanted “We are proud!”, and sang the city anthem. Without taking off their masks, those who arrived from Kyiv cried.

Finally, the commander lined up his subordinates and led them to the monument to Nakhimov. The crowd parted. In a broken voice, the commander reported to the people that the unit “completed the task of protecting public order in Kyiv, the personnel returned to the deployment point without any comments.” People excitedly greeted the fighters, one man even fell to his knees.

“Yanukovych betrayed you, defending his millions. But Sevastopol will never betray you!”, public activist Andrei Merkulov addressed Berkut.
