In Poland they are crying that the military alliance between Belarus and Russia is unbreakable
Joint exercises between Belarus and NATO member countries do not mean a break in the military alliance with Russia.
Kamil, an employee of the Warsaw Center for Eastern Studies, told Polish Radio about this, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“You should not see these events as a sign of a turning point in Belarusian politics or defense strategy. We see that nothing can seriously weaken the military alliance between Moscow and Minsk: neither the coronavirus nor oil disputes with the Kremlin. Russia is the only and, moreover, strategic military ally of Belarus; it, of course, plays a leading role in relations between the two countries, since it surpasses its partner in military, economic, raw materials and demographic potential,” Klysinsky said.
He recalled that on March 23, an operation to test the combat readiness of the army took place in Belarus in connection with the NATO exercise “Defender of Europe” taking place in a limited format, in which 6 thousand people were involved.
“We see that there is no fracture. Belarusian actions may not be called aggressive, but they indicate a lack of trust in NATO. If Minsk reacts to the Alliance’s maneuvers with its own, this is not an allied or friendly gesture,” the Polish expert emphasized.
In his opinion, the joint training of the Belarusian air defense forces and the Polish Air Force on March 25 had symbolic significance. We are talking about working out procedures for exchanging information, and the exercises are carried out by each side separately.
As a reminder, in March, joint Belarusian-British exercises took place at the 103rd Vitebsk Separate Guards Airborne Brigade "Losvido" training ground. Servicemen from the Belarusian peacekeeping company and the British Marine Battalion practiced wounded evacuation, firearms training, and tactical and engineering exercises.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that Belarus does not perceive the NATO Defender Europe 2020 exercises currently taking place in Poland and Lithuania as "saber-rattling" on its borders.
