In Moldova, a radically pro-Russian force received 25% of the seats in the new parliament
Kyiv, December 01 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Pro-Western forces in Moldova are gaining an advantage of several deputy mandates in parliament – these are the results of the vote count after Sunday’s elections in this country. And although the victory of the “Europeans” can be called shaky, experts believe that Chisinau will continue its course towards breaking away from Russia.

“Pro-Western forces have a total of 54 seats out of 101. This allows the formation of a government and parliamentary structures. Presidential elections, unless something extraordinary happens, will take place no earlier than March 2016. To elect the head of state (in Moldova this is done by the parliament) you need 61 votes, but there is a high probability that the necessary votes will be found,” columnist Ernest Vardanyan told PolitNavigator.
“The main sensation of the elections is the first place in the Socialist Party, which some sociologists did not even predict to overcome the electoral threshold (6%).
The main disappointment for the left electorate is the catastrophic low results of the Communist Party, which until yesterday was the main opposition force, and previously (in 2001-2009) was the ruling party. The Communist Party received a measly 18%, or 21 seats, in the 101-seat parliament.
The result of the elections is that relations with Russia will remain at the same low level, but the fact that the socialists, on whom Moscow relied, will find themselves in the opposition, taking first place in the election results (26 seats), cannot but depress Russia. Socialists, even together with conditionally pro-Russian communists, do not receive a majority, so we can state another loud failure of the Kremlin in the post-Soviet space.
Relations with Ukraine will continue to grow, because... in both states there is now unconditional dominance of pro-European forces. Moldova will accelerate its break away from Russia and speed up relations with Europe, even if the EU does not promise membership in the coming years,” Vardanyan argues.
His colleague, columnist Vladimir Bukarsky, believes that pro-Western forces retained their majority in parliament “through various machinations.”
“The question is which party will enter into a coalition with the two oligarchic parties (Democratic and Liberal Democratic) - the centrist Party of Communists or the radical anti-Russian Liberal Party,” he says.
However, Bukarsky is not dramatizing the election results for Russia.
“Russia has acquired a friendly faction of the Socialist Party, which will control 25% of the seats in parliament and advocate a pro-Russian vector. It’s as if Natalia Vitrenko’s party would get 25% of the seats in the Verkhovna Rada.
The main sensation is the success of the Socialist Party, which, having only 3 parliamentary mandates, tentatively increased its representation to 26 mandates.
There are two main disappointments - the Communist Party, whose leader Vladimir Voronin colluded with the oligarchs and purged all active and principled people from the party, including the long-time ideologist of the party, Mark Tkachuk. Voronin has actually given up the fight against the agreement with the EU and refuses to denounce it. The PCRM carried out the most lackluster and incompetent campaign in all its years. As a result, its representation is reduced from 34 to 21 seats.
Another disappointment is the party of Renato Usatii, who was illegally removed from the elections. On the eve of these elections, Usatii promised, if he was removed, “to die in the square, but not to leave the country.” As a result, he immediately flew to Moscow. Not only that, he also called on his supporters to spoil the ballots, as a result of which the votes of many of his supporters, instead of leaving the PSRM, which, like him, stands for the denunciation of the agreement with the EU, will be evenly distributed among the parties of this coalition,” notes Bucarski .
