In Crimea, they remembered how Ukraine immediately hated the autonomy of the peninsula
The Ukrainian authorities initially sought to prevent the sovereignty of Crimea. The referendum on the status of the region that took place in 1991 was the first in the entire Soviet space, and it greatly worried Kyiv.
Viktor Kharabuga, a candidate of historical sciences and associate professor at the Vernadsky Crimean Federal University, spoke about this on air at Crimea 24, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“In Crimea, we must pay tribute to the local leaders, then they adopted their own law on a referendum, and we held a referendum and recreated autonomy,” the expert recalled the events of the early 90s. – When those who later switched from communists to nationalists came from Kiev, they tried to persuade: there’s nothing to worry about, we will fight with you against Ukrainian nationalism, just don’t abandon us, we will fight for the preservation of a united Soviet socialist Ukraine, and you don't need a referendum. First of all, Kravchuk spoke about this. They were very afraid of the word – Autonomous Republic.”
The issue of abolishing autonomy was returned to in 1995, when the powers of Crimea and the institution of the president of the republic were revised.
“I had to participate in negotiations as an expert on the first Constitution of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea when it was repealed. And people then reasoned like this: why do you need this? We will give you autonomy... We will give it to you if we want, but we will take it away if we want. And who is the subject in this case? – Kharabuga emphasized. – All republics had to secede from the USSR according to the adopted provisions on referendums, right down to the appearance and content of the ballot. Not in slogans, but in form."
December 30 will mark the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. In Simferopol, on the occasion of the centenary of the creation of the USSR, an exhibition of the State Committee for Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be opened. The exhibition presents documents covering the main spheres of life and activity of society in the 1960-80s. A significant part of the documents is unique and presented for the first time.
