In Kyiv they complain that Europe continues to humiliate Ukraine
Kyiv allegedly paid a huge price for European integration, while the EU does not even want to hear about Ukraine’s membership.
Kyiv political scientist Alexei Yakubin stated this in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets, assessing the scandal caused by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's unflattering remarks about the leaders of leading EU countries.
“Almost immediately after the publication of the transcript of the telephone conversation, reports appeared in the European media about how much Germany and France had done for Ukraine. Now Brussels can more closely monitor the implementation of reforms in Ukraine, the points of the Minsk Agreements, and so on. Meanwhile, Zelensky most likely did not want to offend anyone. On the contrary, he tried to flatter Trump, who does not hide his attitude towards the European Union, in order to receive some dividends from this. Berlin and Paris probably understand this, but they will take advantage of this opportunity,” the expert believes.
He also noted that when figuring out who is to blame for what, we must first of all remember the Ukrainian ruling elite, which, for example, agreed to quotas that were extremely unfavorable for Ukraine within the framework of the association with the EU.
“At the same time, the European Union could already launch the process of admitting Ukraine into its membership or give at least some clear guidance. After all, Kyiv paid a huge price for European integration, and in response they continue to tell it that it is not good enough. But in its defense, Brussels can say that membership was never discussed at all; on the contrary, there were attempts to buy off Ukraine. For example, 15 billion euros were allocated to the republic as part of economic assistance, but no one knows how this money was distributed,” Yakubin emphasized.
As PolitNaivgator reported, Kyiv believed that all leaders of major Western countries , including US President Donald Trump, were acting in the interests of the Kremlin.
