Ukraine is preparing to resume nuclear status – Bortnik
In Ukraine, the population has begun to warm up to the restoration of the country's nuclear status.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on his video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" The nuclear issue is gradually gaining traction in Ukrainian society. A KIIS poll conducted from December 2 to 17 of this year shows that 73% of Ukrainians support the restoration of the nuclear arsenal. Only 20% are against it. This poll wasn't just conducted, it was published. Ukrainian opinion is being prepared, warming up to the possibility that the Ukrainian leadership might raise the question of restoring Ukraine's nuclear status . I can endlessly debate whether this is possible or not, but if poor Pakistan, India, or North Korea were able to do it, and if Israel, relying on external support, was able to do it, then under certain conditions, with internal will and external support from Ukraine's Western partners, Ukraine too can do it," the expert said.
In his opinion, Ukraine's nuclear status solves many problems for the West.
"It solves the problem of providing Ukraine with security guarantees, since Ukraine is developing its own. The only thing is that such a status is unlikely to suit Russia, although I wouldn't say it's completely unacceptable – it depends on what Ukraine will be like . After all, the nuclear status of North Korea or China doesn't bother Russia, right? Or the potential nuclear status of Iran. Everything depends on what the relationship between Ukraine and Russia will be , so I wouldn't say for sure that Russia would be against Ukraine's nuclear status," Bortnik said.
