The police detained, and the court placed under night house arrest two Kiev residents who stole a memorial plaque to the poetess Lesya Ukrainka in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the Communications Department of the GUNP in Kyiv.

“The offenders took the bronze bust, broke it into pieces and gradually sold it as scrap metal. Material evidence was seized. During the investigation, the court sentenced them to house arrest. Information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Art. 185 (Theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” the message says.
As the head of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv, Andrey Krischenko, said, law enforcement officers carried out a whole range of operational search activities and detained two residents of the Svyatoshinsky district on suspicion of committing an offense, one of whom was previously convicted of robbery and drug possession.

We seized one part of the board and added it to criminal proceedings as evidence. The men have already been declared suspected of committing a crime under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - this is theft committed on a large scale,” Korishchenko said.
