Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced this today at a press conference in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to him, Ukraine is already conducting an examination and finding out whether the construction of the bridge caused environmental damage.
“A very important aspect of our work is countering a possible environmental disaster that could arise due to the construction of the so-called Kerch Bridge. At this point, an environmental assessment is taking place within the framework of the criminal process, and if it produces results and confirms the likelihood of an environmental disaster, we plan to appeal to the countries of the Black Sea cooperation - this is Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey - with a proposal to create, within the framework of the European Convention on Mutual Assistance in criminal cases of a joint investigative group to conduct a pre-trial investigation, and then a judicial investigation regarding the construction of this bridge,” Lutsenko said.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan demanded an immediate halt to construction of the Crimean Bridge, as its commissioning would seriously impact the Ukrainian economy.
