There is a serious demand in European society for rapprochement with Russia

Vladimir Kornilov, director of the Center for Eurasian Studies, stated this in a comment to IReactor , responding to a question about the reasons for the pro-Russian rhetoric in public statements by several French presidential candidates.
“The presence of pro-Russian rhetoric during the election campaign does not at all indicate that “the EU country has turned to Russia,” the political scientist emphasized. – During the elections and referendums in Britain, the mayor of London, Johnson, went on like this, arguing that we need to be friends with Russia. And he became Foreign Minister - and, as you can see, Britain’s foreign policy has not changed, if not become even worse in relation to Russia.”
“The presence of outwardly “pro-Russian” rhetoric from European (and some American) politicians does not yet indicate a change in the course of Western countries, but rather that there is a demand for rapprochement with Russia among the masses with whom these politicians are flirting. And nothing more,” Kornilov clarified. “But I hope that sooner or later public sentiment in the West will force governments to begin clearing out the rubble in Russian-Western relations that has piled up in recent years.”
