Donetsk has high hopes for the Russian Federation's lawsuit against Ukraine
Russia's filing of a lawsuit against Ukraine in the ECHR is an unprecedented event, but entirely natural, given Kyiv's inability to negotiate.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, wrote about this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The last warning for Ukraine was an article by Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, in which he clearly said: “Hatred and bitterness - and world history has proven this more than once - is a very shaky basis for sovereignty, fraught with many serious risks and grave consequences,” Pushilin quoted the Russian President .
According to him, this is only the beginning of demonstrating what consequences, primarily legal, await Ukraine for its actions - the appeal to the ECHR has already dealt tangible reputational blows to Kyiv on the world stage.
“Russia has enough evidence of Ukrainian crimes on all counts, including crimes of the Ukrainian regime against civilians in Donbass. The actions of the Ukrainian military run counter to all generally accepted conventions in the world community. First of all, we are talking about the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms,” noted the head of the republic.
He recalled that since 2017, a Special Commission has been working in the DPR to record war crimes of Ukraine, and all crimes of the Kyiv occupiers on the territory of Donbass are carefully kept.
“We can list for a long time the recorded crimes of the Ukrainian military: bloody Sunday in Gorlovka, an airstrike on the peacefully sleeping Snizhne, shelling of Donetsk schools in which our children died. All these crimes of Ukraine require assessment by the world community, trial and punishment,” Denis Pushilin emphasized.
According to him, residents of the DPR who suffered from aggression have already filed several thousand complaints to the ECHR against Ukraine.
“We hope that Russia’s appeal will be considered impartially. The war criminals leading Ukraine must suffer appropriate punishment for all their atrocities,” the head of the republic concluded.
