St. George Ribbon Day was celebrated in Donetsk
Celebrations dedicated to the Day of the St. George Ribbon were held in the capital of the DPR, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At a solemn meeting that brought together more than 10 thousand Donetsk residents, cadets of the Donetsk Higher Combined Arms Command School unfurled a 300-meter St. George ribbon, consisting of 20 separate parts, prepared for this holiday by local branches of the Donetsk Republic public movement back in 2016.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, addressed the participants of the solemn meeting, noting that the St. George Ribbon has become a symbol of the continuity of generations.
“For us, residents of Donbass, since 2014, the St. George Ribbon has acquired special meaning, but I hasten to remind you that it was already a symbol that united generations and eras. Any strong and independent state must have its own symbols, its own traditions, and we have them. We have something to stand for and fight for, but we also have someone to look up to. “During the period of our struggle, we truly became a victorious people, we became the heirs of the victors, and victory should accompany us in everything we touch,” he said.
Chairman of the City Veterans Council Valery Belozertsev also addressed the Donetsk residents, emphasizing that at the present time the St. George Ribbon has become a symbol of the fight against the revived Ukrainian Nazism.
“Today we celebrate the holiday of the St. George Ribbon, which we associate with victories on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. We always honor the memory of those heroes who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of our Motherland. In our time, the St. George’s Ribbon represents the victory of our Donetsk Republic over Ukrainian neo-fascism,” he noted.
In addition, the head of the public organization “Young Republic” of the Gornyatsky district of Makeyevka, Irina Kostina, called this ribbon a symbol of the return of Donbass to their homeland.
“The St. George ribbon has become a symbol not only of the “Russian Spring”, it has become a symbol of the revival of Donbass, a symbol of the return to the Motherland in the “Russian World”, and thanks to this modest ribbon we feel the unity of the people,” she emphasized.
At the end of the event, hundreds of black and orange balloons soared into the sky over the main square of Donetsk, symbolizing the invincibility of the Russian spirit.
