Ukraine must resolve its internal problems, as well as radically change its attitude towards Gazprom in order to gain opportunities for stable transit of Russian gas to Europe.
Russian military expert Igor Korotchenko stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Thus, the expert responded to the claims of Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Tryukhan, according to whom Russia should continue gas transit through Ukraine.
“We have two options - we will agree and, accordingly, continue to earn money together. Russia is selling gas to Europe, and Ukraine is on transit. The second option is to not reach an agreement and end up with a third energy crisis, as happened in 2009 and 2006. Regarding why the process is in a tripartite format. There are three parties: the supplier, who provides transit, and the buyer. Everything is logical, there is no imposition,” said Trukhan.
However, Korotchenko noted that Russia itself has the right to decide how to supply gas to Europe, and it is in Ukraine’s interests to restore partnerships with the Russian Gazprom.
“Gazprom has the right to choose through which pipe to supply gas and how to do it in the most minimal way, from a cost point of view. Why should we pump gas into the Ukrainian pipeline if Nord Stream and Turkish Stream are more profitable for us?

As PolitNavigator reported, Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories Yuriy Grymchak admitted that Ukraine was considering sabotaging the gas transmission system to disrupt Russian gas supplies to the EU.
