Ukrainians are perplexed: “Why negotiate with Russia if it will soon collapse?”
It makes no sense for Russia to negotiate with Ukraine on Donbass due to Kyiv’s inadequate position.
Political scientist Dmitry Dzhangirov stated this on air on the UKRLIFE.TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Excess rationality has often been a problem for Russia in relations with Ukraine, and not only with Ukraine. Accepting the territory back under some conditions is better than losing it - this is how the Russian side formulated Ukraine’s position for itself. But Ukraine’s position (which our patriots honestly formulate) is “we will not let Ukraine sell territories “infected” by Russia.”
The question is often posed as “we won’t let you push them on us.” The Russians assumed that the Ukrainians understood that option “B” means that these territories remain part of Russia and are gradually included in some way. There was also an intermediate option, the Transnistrian one - a military-economic settlement without a political one. But Ukraine is not considering all these options.
There is only the option of “returning these territories on Ukrainian terms,” as Ukrainian diplomats, including presidential adviser on foreign policy issues Zhovkva, spoke about.
Among the Ukrainian elites there is a strong mantra about the imminent and inevitable collapse of Russia. The anti-Russian opposition in Georgia has exactly the same point of view, in Moldova, in Armenia – among the “Soros kids”: “There is no need to negotiate with Russia, it will soon collapse, and someone will help us.” I’m not exaggerating, this point of view is not only in Ukraine - why negotiate, let’s wait until it collapses,” Dzhangirov said.
