Ukraine missed the chance for Donbass autonomy. Last Possibility – Confederation

By refusing to implement the Minsk agreements, Ukraine missed the chance to politically resolve the conflict in Donbass by granting it autonomy status; now the only possible solution may be to re-establish the Ukrainian state as a confederation - however, this option is becoming less and less realistic as the LDPR is strengthened as independent republics.
Political scientist Denis Denisov stated this to PolitNavigator, commenting on the results of the 3rd anniversary of the referendums in Donbass.

“Over these three years, the republics have emerged as full-fledged independent states. There is confirmation of this among the international community and a number of experts and politicians. Even in Ukraine they already treat this situation as a fait accompli. That’s why we see the official position of the Ukrainian authorities, which is doing everything to demonstrate its determination to abandon Donbass.
All the key institutions of a democratic state have been formed here, all government institutions are fully functioning, the process of reformatting the economy is underway, which, apparently, will end in the near future and will be quite successful.
The republics have established themselves as full-fledged states, the more difficult it will be for the Ukrainian authorities to try to reintegrate these territories.
We understand perfectly well that the only way out is the theoretically possible creation of a confederation - and only on the condition that the current Ukrainian political elite does not exist, and it is replaced by politicians who more adequately perceive reality,” Denisov said.
