About it reports the specialized publication APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits.
“In September 2016, Ukrainian exporters shipped 7,9 thousand tons of watermelons and melons to the foreign market, while a year earlier this figure was slightly less than 6,5 thousand tons. It is worth noting that more was exported only in 2009, when Ukraine sold 8,3 thousand tons of watermelons and melons on the foreign market in September. Based on the figures, last month Ukraine managed to export a record volume of melons over the past 7 years and received the second result in the entire history of the country’s independence,” the report says.
In total, since the beginning of the melon sales season, exports amounted to 21 thousand tons. Poland has been the main buyer of these products for the second year now. From June to September, 7,3 thousand tons, or 35% of total exports, have already been shipped to this country.
In second place is Belarus. This country has been one of the three leading countries in the consumption of Ukrainian melons for many years. This year, Ukraine has already shipped 3,5 thousand tons to this market, or 17% of total exports.
Lithuania closes the top three. This country accounted for 14% of total exports, or 2,9 thousand tons.
